Meet Andy – Director & Chartered Financial Planner

Andy is the founder of Purpose Financial Planning.  He has worked in financial services all of his career and has been advising people on making the most of their money since 2016.  Prior to launching Purpose FP, Andy was a financial planner and director with one of Scotland’s largest independently-owned accountancy practices.  He is qualified to the highest level with the Personal Finance Society (Fellowship), individually Chartered, and holds a variety of professional qualifications from both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

You can find Andy’s entry on the Financial Conduct Authority register here and a copy of his Statement of Professional Standing here. The firm’s entry on the FCA register is also easily found.

Andy loves to show people that they can afford to do those bucket-list aspirations, retire early, or give people total peace of mind regarding their money. Purpose Financial Planning was launched to help people get the most from their money, to simplify financial advice, and to help people get their money working for them.

Andy lives in Edinburgh with his family and when not talking money can be found hacking - and we do mean hacking, he would be better placed using a spade rather than clubs - his way around a golf course, or going through the emotional heartache of following the Scottish national football team. That said, at the time of writing (May 2023) we actually have a very good team, and our most recent game was a victory against Spain. It’s disconcerting.

Meet Emily – Client Support

Emily joined the Purpose FP team in the summer of 2024. She has over 6 years’ experience in financial services working as an IFA Administrator and Junior Paraplanner and has completed CII exams R01 and R05, as well as recently growing her skills in marketing and social media.

Emily thrives on providing excellent customer service to the firm’s clients. Her day is varied and can involve anything from processing business, speaking with clients, and keeping Andy right (this being the hardest task, no doubt). She also has a love for learning new systems and putting processes in place to make everyone’s life easier.

In her spare time, Emily loves attending music concerts and visiting beaches along the North Yorkshire coast with her cockapoo, Marcy.

Meet Nikki – Chief Investment Officer, CIO (outsourced)

Nicki is CIO at our chosen independent investment partner, Timeline. Timeline help us implement our philosophy of low-cost, evidence-based investment. They provide extensive support, contemporary academic research and continual fund and platform due diligence.

Nikki is a CFA® Charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. Having been a Global Equities Portfolio Manager with UBS Global Asset Management for over 15 years, Nicki has a thorough understanding of investment management. She is responsible for investment strategy including asset allocation, research, due diligence and portfolio construction.

Meet Mac – Director of Happiness

The star of the show. Mac is not very interested in finance at all, truth be told.  He is more of a fan of stealing biscuits, sunbathing, and playing with his friends.  He takes great pride in his ability to destroy allegedly ‘indestructible’ dog toys.

We can’t promise that he will be at in-person meetings, but he does like to supervise Andy during some of the video meetings, just to ensure his standards are being maintained.  Mac made his way to Edinburgh via the superb charity, Saving & Rehoming Strays.

We also work with…

  • Some of the largest financial organisations in the UK, whilst never compromising our independence.

  • Industry-leading support network, ValidPath. They help ensure our advice is compliant and understandable, and that we are updated on any change to legislation. We were naturally attracted to their tagline that “Independence is Everything”.

  • Carefully chosen investment professionals that help facilitate our philosophy of low-cost, multi-asset investing; a position that is supported by decades of rigorous academic research.

  • Specialist external advisers like lawyers, accountants, and private banks, to ensure that all of our client’s requirements are handled efficiently and collaboratively.

What do we do?

We help you understand exactly how you and your finances are positioned now, and where you will be in the future.

We do this by analysing your existing assets in detail - explaining your charges, tax status, potential guarantees, investment performance, and more - and then building a plan to help you achieve the maximum benefit from your resources.

Put simply, we want to help you work out where you stand, ensure your money is working as hard as possible, and ensure it is going to provide you with what you need in the future.

The fun part of this is encouraging our clients to spend more than they thought they could afford to.
